The ruling UPND has scooped the Pambashe parliamentary seat, after its candidate Justin Kapema polled 5,067 votes, ahead of his closest rival, Tonse Alliance candidate Williams Mwenya who polled 2,614.

Announcing the result this morning, Pambashe Parliamentary By-Election Returning Officer Michael Munshya declared Mr. Kapema as the duly elected Member of Parliament for Pambashe Constituency.

Democratic Union Candidate Honorato Kanunsha came in third with 1,722 votes while James Mulenga from the socialist party polled 509.

Mr. Munshya says, a total of 10,071 votes were cast out of the 20,154 registered voters in Pambashe constituency, while 159 ballots were rejected from the 52 polling stations.

And speaking shortly after he was declared winner,  newly elected Pambashe Member of Parliament Justin Kapema has pledged to implement short term developmental programs before august 2026 while focusing on long term ones beyond next year’s polls.

And our staffer Tellah Hazinji reports from Petauke Central, that as of this morning results confirmed so far from 99 polling stations indicate that Simon Banda, of the New Congress Party, under the Tonse Alliance is leading with 12,682 votes, followed by Severian Lungu of the UPND with 10,043 votes.

8 more polling stations are remaining from the most rural areas that are inaccessible by road and results are expected to be in after 08:00hrs and a winner declared by 10:00hrs.
