TRUCK DRIVER HOSPITALIZED AFTER BEING CRUSHED BENEATH HIS OWN VEHICLE.
A 33-year-old truck driver is nursing serious injuries at Chinsali General Hospital after being pinned under his truck at the Council Dry Port in Shiwang’andu District.
Muchinga Police Commanding Officer, Denis Moola, confirmed the incident and identified the victim as Siwo Mike of Matero, Lusaka.
Mr. Moola explained that the accident occurred around 06:30 hours today when the driver attempted to repair a mechanical fault beneath the truck.
The vehicle suddenly rolled backward and came to rest on his left thigh.
The accident involved a Howo truck, registration number BLC 9335, and trailer AJE 7879, both owned by J and J Company.
The truck was loaded with copper destined for Tanzania.
“The casualty sustained a fractured left leg and a bruised right knee,” said Mr Moola.
The injured driver was rushed to Chinsali General Hospital, where he remains admitted.
Police say investigations into the cause of the accident are still ongoing.
