The Nation Mourns, ZNBC Shrugs: Former President Edgar Lungu Dies,No State Funeral Declared by BOMA. No National Address from Hichilema just a mere Facebook post – Linda Banks

Linda Banks WRITES

#Banabaabo-What I find both irritating and deeply concerning about some of you is how quick you are to defend your preferred political leaders or dismiss what someone says, often without having the full facts.

This morning, I made a post alluding to the sad death of former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu (ECL), and before any details were even confirmed, some of you jumped into arguments and denials. Out of respect and sensitivity, I deliberately chose not to reveal everything I knew at the time.

Here’s the problem: just because you own a smartphone and follow my page doesn’t mean we’re all simply bloggers speculating for clicks. I have sources, real, credible sources. I speak with people in high places, including from the Cabinet Office, and I still have friends at ZNBC who were equally puzzled as to why the death of Zambia’s sixth Republican President wasn’t the leading story on the national news.

Of course, I won’t name these individuals because I respect their jobs and the risks they take in confiding in me. But yes, I have spoken to people at both Cabinet Office and State House. The truth is, even within those circles, there seems to be confusion. No official communication, no clear plans, no coordinated response.

We even discussed the surprising absence of a live national address from the current President to formally announce ECL’s passing. Regardless of political allegiance, this was a moment that deserved solemn, respectful acknowledgment. That’s not politics it’s basic human decency.

Let me be clear: I was never a fan of the political path ECL took. I’ve written extensively and critically about his governance. But his team has, in the past, shared my posts in good faith highlighting even the positive traits I pointed out about his personality. That’s maturity.

When someone dies, we put politics aside and do the right thing as human beings. We show compassion. We don’t harden our hearts or behave like self-proclaimed Christians who only walk the talk when it’s convenient.

So before you rush to comment next time, pause, ask questions, seek facts, and remember that not everyone speaking is just guessing, we’re not all in the same lane.
