SUPPORT KETTY NANYANGWE AS DEPUTY, HICHILEMA DIRECTS AND CAUSES WITHDRAWAL MUKUBESA NYONI AS CONTESTANT

President HH today met all the 22 UPND councilors at State House and ordered them to allow Lusaka deputy mayor to return her seat unopposed and directed the other four aspiring candidates not to stand as all the councils go to the polls this Friday.

The President announced that those who will go ahead and stand for the position of deputy mayor will face serious disciplinary sanctions.

The UPND councilors who have been told to withdraw their deputy mayoral candidature are Mukubesa Nyoni of Kalingalinga ward, Gerald Samboko of Garden House ward, Cheelo Leonard of Kanyama ward, Chimuka Njoomona of Chakunkula ward and Mubotu Madyenkuku of Independnce ward.

Last week, the party secretariat brought all its 22 councillors together and directed them to allow Ketty Nanyangwe to continue as deputy mayor but there was a serious objection which prompted the leadership to bring in State House which has given Ms. Nanyangwe a serious assignment to fight the Mayor Chilando Chitangala ahead of the 2026 elections considering that she is PF.

Apart from the UPND councilors, Lusaka City Council (LCC) has 15 PF councilors and 1 independent councilor and LCC’s acting town clerk has received serious instructions from Local Government Minister Garry Nkombo not to receive any deputy mayor nomination papers from any UPND councilor.
