STOP THE LIES – LUNGU BUILT, YOU BROKE IT
“Fix what’s broken, or step aside. Enough with the theatrics. Lead, or leave.” – Ephraim Shakafuswa

Following the death of Hon. Edith Nawakwi, what should have been a moment of national mourning has turned into a political circus. The current regime has shamelessly used her passing as a springboard to smear former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu—an act that has drawn fierce condemnation.
Ephraim Shakafuswa, a member of the Tonse Alliance Council of Leaders, has responded to these accusations with sharp words and cold facts. He accuses the government of cowardice, hiding behind lies instead of owning up to its failures.
He reminds the nation that during President Lungu’s time in office, Zambia saw one of the largest healthcare infrastructure expansions in its history. More than 650 health facilities were constructed, many in rural and hard-to-reach areas. Medical equipment was procured, oxygen plants installed, ambulances deployed, and medicine stocked. Systems were in place, and the public could access basic health services with dignity.
That infrastructure is now deteriorating—not because of Lungu, but because of what Shakafuswa calls “deliberate sabotage.” Equipment is lying idle. Drugs are being withheld from facilities. Healthcare workers are overworked, and recruitment has become a breeding ground for nepotism and tribalism.
“These are not opinions. They are facts,” Shakafuswa stated bluntly.
He challenged the narrative that Lungu “did nothing,” pointing out that the former President’s work can be seen and touched in every province. What is absent today is the political will to maintain and build upon it.
After nearly three years in office, the UPND continues to trade in excuses. Instead of improving the systems they inherited, they’ve allowed them to rot—while scandals like the ZAMMSA procurement mess go conveniently unanswered.
“President Lungu has nothing to hide—but he won’t allow his legacy to be rewritten with lies,” said Shakafuswa. “Fix what’s broken, or step aside. Enough with the theatrics. Lead, or leave.”
