SOME UPND PARTY MEMBERS UNHAPPY WITH SUSPENSION FROM PARTY STRUCTURES ON FALSE ALLEGATIONS
By Michael Nyumbu
Some UPND Members who were suspended on allegations of supporting some aspiring Parliamentary Candidate unlike the then incumbent in Monze’s Moomba Constituency says the suspension was not fair.
Among them Morris Moonga of MUJIKA who was Constituency secretary says he did not support any independent candidate contrary to assertions by the party senior officials, but his only offense was to support a candidate of his choice, during the primary elections who was later not selected by the party.
Mr Moonga, Mr Besten Mweemba, Mr Victor Hamusale all wondered what internal democracy means if the party can suspend then on grounds of supporting a candidate during primary elections, which does not go against the party constitution.
They told tells Byta FM Zambia News that after the party left the candidate they supported during primary elections, they all rallied behind the candidate who was selected by the party and is the current Moomba Constituency Member of Parliament.
But UPND Southern Province Chairperson Billard Makwembo has advised Mr Moonga and others suspended party members in Moomba constituency to go back to the party structures.
Makwembo says all the party members in the province who left prior to the 2021 elections on grounds of supporting independent candidates are free to rejoin the party and mobilize it ahead of the 2026 elections.
