Shocking Revelation in Kampyongo Case: Finance Director Exposes Half-Baked Evidence
…as State Witness evidence reveals an omission of key source of income…
Lusaka, 23rd July, 2024
Magistrate Silvia Munyinya today heard explosive testimony from Dr. Mweemba Mungo, the Director of Finance from the National Assembly, which cast serious doubt on the integrity of evidence previously presented in the case involving Hon. Stephen Kampyongo.
Dr. Mungo being a witness of facts detailed testimony provided a comprehensive and fully documented account of Hon. Kampyongo’s total earnings from his tenure as a Member of Parliament from 2011 to 2021.
His evidence included salaries, seating allowances, and all other approved allowances. This new testimony contradicted earlier evidence presented by the first state witness from the National Assembly, revealing a shocking discrepancy in the financial records.
The court was taken aback when Dr. Mungo, backed by hard copy documentation, demonstrated that the initial evidence was incomplete, lacking the full statement of accounts pertaining to Hon. Kampyongo’s allowances.
According to Dr. Mungo, the previously submitted document, labeled P9, only captured a total amount of 4.8 million Kwacha. However, his testimony included the missing allowances, bringing the total to 5.8 million Kwacha.
Dr. Mungo further testified that the contested document had been prepared and signed by the state witness without his office’s oversight, raising serious concerns about the authenticity and accuracy of the earlier evidence. In light of today’s testimony, the first witness’s evidence shows a variance in allowances amounting to over a million Kwacha.
The case continues to unfold with intense scrutiny.
