*Political Power Lies in the Hands of Voters and the Majority of Ordinary People*
Upon assuming power, the ruling UPND leadership has embarked on a campaign of political propaganda, promoting the idea that the UPND is an unbeatable force. This narrative of political invincibility has been widely pushed, particularly from the Office of the Presidency, with President Hakainde Hichilema boasting that no opposition politician can challenge or defeat him in the upcoming general elections. This belief, supported by the President himself, extends to a vision where the UPND Members believe that ruling Party can remain in Power until beyond the year 2090. As a result, many within the ruling party are led to believe that the UPND is politically stable and unbeatable.
However, history teaches us that God always provides alternative leadership when needed. The Bible recounts how God anointed alternative leaders, such as the young shepherd David who replaced King Saul when the latter betrayed God’s trust. Similarly, after Zambia gained independence, President Kenneth Kaunda’s UNIP party used propaganda to convince the nation that no one could challenge Kaunda’s rule. Kaunda was revered almost like a divine figure, with the slogan “Kumulu Lesa, Panshi Kaunda,” reinforcing this belief. Yet, in 1991, President Fredrick Chiluba, with the support of the people, defeated Kaunda, showing that no leader is invincible.
Chiluba, too, eventually believed in his own political invincibility, attempting to secure an illegal third term, only to be thwarted by the will of the people. Later, President Rupiah Banda mounted an expensive campaign, but in 2011, he was surprisingly defeated by Michael Sata, who had fewer resources. Similarly, the Patriotic Front (PF), under President Edgar Lungu, fell into the trap of believing they were invulnerable. However, in 2021, the UPND, led by Hichilema, defeated them with a wide margin.
It seems that politicians often fail to learn from history. The current UPND leaders, too, appear to think that no one can rise to challenge and defeat President Hichilema. Yet, just as God has raised leaders in the past, He will raise an alternative leader to challenge and defeat the UPND’s presidential candidate in the next election.
*A New Leader Will Soon Rise to Challenge UPND*
Despite the UPND’s belief in its invincibility, a new leader will soon emerge from the opposition to challenge and defeat President Hichilema in the next general elections. Although the UPND has succeeded in disqualifying former President Edgar Lungu from contesting, another candidate, possibly supported by Lungu and the people, will rise to challenge and defeat the current leadership.
*UPND’s Propaganda Cannot Conceal Its Failures*
Although the UPND won the 2021 election with a large margin, it has failed to match its popularity with tangible economic growth. Promises made to the people have largely been ignored, with the ruling party instead focusing on victimization and human rights abuses. President Hichilema, who presented himself as an economic expert capable of turning the country’s fortunes around, has failed to deliver on his promises. Public surveys indicate a sharp decline in UPND’s popularity, with many believing that the party will be voted out of power in the next general election.
*The Petauke Central Constituency Bye-election as a Sign*
The recent bye-election in Petauke Central demonstrated that the UPND is not invincible. Despite the party’s vast resources and state machinery, the UPND was defeated by a group of young, determined opposition campaigners. This loss, particularly in a constituency UPND had heavily invested Campaign resources and was supported by a Number of PF Members of Parliament, shows that the ruling party can be defeated, and a similar fate awaits the UPND in the next general election.
*A New Generation of Leaders Will Rise*
The upcoming general elections will likely witness the rise of a new generation of leaders who will replace many of the current politicians, both in the ruling party and the opposition. Politicians who have fostered division, supported oppressive government policies, or undermined democracy will be pushed into political retirement by the people. Many senior UPND figures will also face serious challenges from fresh, new candidates.
*Tonse Alliance: The People’s Choice for the Next General Election*
Following the UPND’s disappointing performance in office, the Tonse Alliance has quickly emerged as a strong alternative leadership option. In just a short time, the alliance has given the ruling party a real challenge. Citizens who have endured hardship under UPND rule are encouraged to support the Tonse Alliance in upcoming bye-elections and the next general election. The UPND, with its poor economic performance, is likely to be voted out of power by the people who feel let down.
*Who Will Challenge and Defeat the UPND Presidential Candidate?*
Among the opposition, there are several potential leaders who could rise to challenge and defeat President Hichilema in the next election. Figures like Kelvin Fube Bwalya (KBF) of the Zambia Must Prosper Party, Dr. Fred M’membe of the Socialist Party, Harry Kalaba of the Citizens First Party, Kasonde Mwenda of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Edgar Chagwa Lungu of the Patriotic Front, Chishala Kateka of the New Heritage Party, and other leaders from other Parties are all potential challengers. One of these leaders, guided by God’s will, will emerge to challenge and defeat the UPND’s candidate in the next general election.
*Conclusion: The People’s Will Prevails*
The people of Zambia, guided by God’s divine leadership, will never run out of potential leaders. As the UPND and President Hichilema continue to propagate their narrative of invincibility, the voters will ultimately decide the future of the country. History has shown that no government, no matter how powerful, is immune to the will of the people. The next general election will bring new hope, with a new generation of leaders ready to serve the people. NAPITA!
