POLICE IN KABWE HAS SEIZED 39 DRUMS OF COOKING OIL SUSPECTED TO BE UNLAWFULLY OBTAINED
Police in Kabwe have seized 39 drums of cooking oil worth over K156000 purported to have been bought from a transit truck. Speaking at the scene in Nakoli, Central Province Police Commissioner Charity Munganga said police will institute investigations to establish the actual content in the drums. She says for now, the suspect who is a 44 aged Cephas Tembo of Lukanga extensions will be charged with being found in possession of goods suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained. And because the suspect has no proof that the goods were genuinely acquired, Munganga says the goods will be forfeited to the state until proven to be genuinely obtained.
She says there has been a habit of selling goods by truckers for a long time in the central province.
Munganga has since warned that police will not sit and watch crime being committed in the province. She adds that whoever will be found wanting will answer according to the provisions of the law.
Meanwhile, Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe says it is unacceptable for anyone to buy unlabeled commodities and sell to the public.
Speaking at the crime scene in Nakoli, Mwanakampwe said anything that is not labeled requires Zambia bureau of standards to certify. He said the government does not want people to consume poisonous things.
Mwanakampwe has since warned those in the habit of buying unlabeled things from truckers and without documentation that they stand to lose when found wanting.
Police got a tip-off from Nakoli community members who witnessed the offloading of the purported drums of oil. The concerned community members quickly informed the police who rushed to the scene.
