Patson is not great says Leicester City coach

LEICESTER City will be without key striker Patson Daka for several months after the Zambian underwent surgery on an ankle injury, new club manager Steve Cooper confirmed on Friday.

The 25-year-old is reported to have sustained the injury during the Foxes’ final pre-season match against Lens.

Cooper also revealed that experienced duo Jamie Vardy and Conor Coady will miss Leicester’s Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday leaving the team with few options for strikers.

“Patson is not great,” said Cooper told BBC Sport.

“He’s had an operation and will be out for a few months. Vards has been injured since the second week of pre-season, he’s closer to returning but will be a little while. Conor Coady will be out for a few more weeks with his hamstring.”

The Foxes face a challenging start to the season, with the added pressure of a potential points deduction hanging over the club. Despite this, Cooper ruled out any new signings before Monday’s clash.
