PAIPA PANO: HONEYBEE SCANDAL HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO COURT

The State has filed a notice to appeal against the acquittal of some former Ministry of Health officials and seven other suspects linked to the infamous 2020 HoneyBee drugs scandal because the trial court did not take plea from the accused in all six counts.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Gilbert Phiri seeks to challenge a magistrate’s decision to acquit former Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Kakulubelwa Mulalelo, HoneyBee Pharmacy Limited and ex-Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya.

Others who were acquitted are Wilson Lungu, a Ministry of Health former procurement officer, and ex-Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority director procurement Bonaventure Chilinde.

The rest were Zakir Hussain Motala, Chomba Kaoma, Imran Lunat and Abdurrahim Motala.
