OPPOSITION MPS WALK OUT OVER BRUTAL TREATMENT OF PETAUKE CENTRAL LAWMAKER

A heated debate in the National Assembly over the continued mistreatment of Petauke Central Independent MP, Emmanuel JayJay Banda, led to opposition lawmakers staging a walkout in protest.

The incident occurred after Lunte MP Mutotwe Kafwaya and Nkana Independent MP Binwell Mpundu raised urgent questions regarding the brutal handling of their colleague, Banda.

However, Second Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Frank Moyo, intervened and proceeded to answer on behalf of the Executive, effectively curtailing the debate.

Incensed by Moyo’s actions, the opposition MPs decided to walk out of the House in protest.

The controversy stems from an incident on May 24, 2024, when Banda was allegedly abducted from Ibex Hill by individuals he identified as including State House officials, Clayson Hamasaka and Levi Ngoma.

Adding to the outrage, on June 19, 2024, the Zambia Police Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and Deputy Commissioner Mwala Yuyi led a team to remove Hon. Banda from Maina Soko Military Hospital and transfer him to Sikanze Clinic. During the process it is further alleged that Banda suffered three seizures.
