No public rallies for the Opposition
Amb. Emmanuel Mwamba writes;
While appearing on Diamond Television, UPND Deputy Secretary General, Gertrude Imenda says it would be risky to allow the Opposition to hold public rallies or outdoor meetings due to heightened political tension.
She has confirmed the illegal position taken by Inspector General of Police, Graphael Musamba against political rallies.
When we say President Hakainde Hichilema has shrunk democratic space, they refuse.
In the 2022 Country Report on Zambia by the IMF and the latest EIU country report, have warned of possible civil and social unrest due to political and other tensions prevailing and caused by the poor economic status and legacy issues such as poverty, unemployment and disease burden.
Sadly this Government is insensitive to these prevailing conditions and acts with impunity against the Constitution, tenets of democracy and democratic space.
Now they are attributing the decision by the Police to deny the Opposition their democratic right, to political tension.
What political tension do they mean?
