Lungu’s son, Daliso “blessed” with 69 vehicles in 5 years, Police have found
Former president Edgar Lungu’s son, Daliso accumulated 69 vehicles over a period of five years, the Zambia Police Service have found.
Out of the the 69 vehicles worth over K24 million, 21 are in Daliso’s name while 48 are said to be registered under Saloid Traders Limited, a company he co-owns with wife, Matildah Likando Milinga.
Police have since arrested Daliso and his wife both aged 36 on charges of Possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime Contrary to Section 71 of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act no. 19 of 2010.
The young Lungu’s were arrested yesterday and briefly detained at Lusaka’s Woodlands Police Station before being released on bond.
Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed the arrests and said Daliso was facing an extra charge of money laundering involving K23,981,966.45.
“Brief facts of the matter are that the company owns 48 motors vehicles all valued at K23,258,405=00 and fixed assets valued at K12,825,100=00 suspected to be proceeds of crime,” Hamoonga told Kalemba in a statement.
“Further Daliso Lungu as an individual has been arrested and charged for the offence of Possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime Contrary to Section 71 of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act no. 19 of 2010 in relation to the possession of 21 motor vehicles all valued at K1,522,549.76 and fixed assets valued at K31,517,300=00 all registered in his names,” he added.
On the money laundering charge, Hamoonga revealed that Police believed that Daliso laundered K23,981,966.45 which he was depositing into the Saloid Traders Limited account domiciled at ZANACO Cairo Business Centre Lusaka Branch.
Hamoonga revealed that all the offences took place between September 17, 2017 and January 24, 2022.
Although the former president has not commented on the matter, Daliso becomes the fourth member of his immediate family to be accused of possessing suspicious wealth.
Last week, Director of Public Prosecutions Gilbert Phiri filed a petition in the Economic and Financial Crimes Court to have property belonging to two of Lungu’s daughters, Tasil and Chiyeso as well as his his wife Esther forfeited to the State because they were believed to have been dubiously acquired.
