KITWE MAYORAL ASPIRANT CHAMBALA MAZIMBA BACKS CONSTITUTION AMENDMENTS, CALLS FOR YOUTH AND WOMEN INCLUSIVITY
By Dennis Sikazwe Jr
As the national conversation around constitutional reforms gains momentum, Kitwe UPND 2026 mayoral aspirant Chambala Mazimba has added his voice in support of the proposed amendments. Speaking during a community engagement in Kitwe’s Nkana Constituency, Mazimba said the time has come for Zambia to refine its governance system in a way that reflects the aspirations of its people especially the youth and women.
Mazimba, a youth leader and passionate advocate for inclusive governance, welcomed the proposals with optimism, saying they present “a rare opportunity to reshape Zambia’s political and administrative landscape for the better.”
“I support the constitution amendments, especially if they can open doors for more youth and women to take part in leadership. Our democracy must be inclusive and forward-looking,” he said.
One of the key issues Mazimba emphasized is delimitation the redrawing and creation of constituencies and wards. He argued that this process, if done transparently and fairly, will bring government services closer to the people and help reduce the burden on overstretched constituencies.
Mazimba also echoed calls for Zambia to **move away from frequent by-elections**, which he described as costly and disruptive.
“We must find constitutional solutions that protect the will of the voters while also safeguarding public resources. Constant by-elections drain the treasury and delay development,” he said.
With a message rooted in fairness and unity, Chambala Mazimba urged fellow young people and women not to sit on the sidelines but to get involved in shaping the future of the country.
As Zambia debates its constitutional path forward, voices like Mazimba’s highlight the growing demand for a more inclusive, cost-effective, and people-centered political system.
