KCM WORKER’S UNHAPPY WITH VEDANTA RESOURCES.MINE UNION

Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) workers are not happy with the decision made by Vedanta Resources for taxing the K2500 once off payment.

National Union For Miners Allied Workers (NUMAW) president Saul Simujika said the workers thought that the investor will pay the entire money as promised but they were surprised that it was taxed.

Mr Simujika said in an interview that the Investor was supposed to make the workers happy instead of trying to mock them by taxing the little money which they where promised.

He said the moral among the workers has vanished because of the attitude which has been portrayed by Vedanta Resources.

No worker is happy with what Vendanta Resources has done because they really expected that they will get the full amount as promised.

What Vendanta should have done is to forgo the tax because a bonus shouldnt be taxed so that workers are motivated unlike what is happening.

I am really telling you that workers are not happy and the investor will see how the workers will be behaving because of what they have done.

Meanwhile Mr Simujika said NUMAW will engage Vedanta Resources on allegations that some Zambians are having their contracts terminated for no reason.

Mr Simujika said the matter will be followed to the latter so that if it is true the union will ensure workers are protected.
