GOVERNMENT EXPLAINS CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI ‘S ILLEGAL EXIT FROM ZAMBIA
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu has refuted reports indicating that Patriotic Front PF member Chishimba Kambwili’s passport has been confiscated by the state.
Media reports today indicate that Mr Chishimba Kambwili is stranded in Zimbabwe after he tried to travel to South Africa by road for medical attention.
But Mr Mwiimbu has explained that on January 30 2024, an unknown male person purported to be of Zimbabwean origin presented a passport belonging to Mr Kambwili to an immigration officer at Chirundu border post to have it stamped in the absence of the holder.
Mr Mwiimbu says the male person explained that the holder of the passport was not well to present himself for exit formalities but after insistence by authorities that Mr Kambwili be brought for exit formalities, the man fled, leaving Mr Kambwili’s passport behind.
Mr Mwiimbu has explained that later, authorities had information that the man who fled and left MR Kambwili’s passport had crossed into Zimbabwe.
Mr Mwiimbu says Mr Kambwili infact contravened section 16 cap 1 of the immigration and deportation act which mandates a person crossing into another country to present themselves to an immigration officer for exit formalities in the way he crossed into Zimbabwe.

REPORTS BY SOME MEDIA HOUSES THAT MR. CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI’S PASSPORT
WAS CONFISCATED BY THE STATE.
THE FACTS ARE THAT, ON 30th JANUARY, 2024 AT AROUND 07:00 HOURS, AN
UNKNOWN MALE PERSON PURPORTED TO BE OF ZIMBABWEAN ORIGIN PRESENTED A PASSPORT, NUMBER ZP 056389 BELONGING TO MR. CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI TO AN IMMIGRATION OFFICER AT CHIRUNDU BORDER POST TO HAVE IT STAMPED IN THE ABSENCE OF THE HOLDER WHOM HE CLAIMED WAS NOT WELL ENOUGH TO PRESENT HIMSELF FOR EXIT FORMALITIES.
HOWEVER, UPON THE OFFICER’S INSISTENCE THAT THE HOLDER BE BROUGHT TO THE COUNTER FOR CLEARANCE, THE UNKNOWN ZIMBABWEAN FLED LEAVING MR.CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI’S PASSPORT BEHIND.

MANNER HE DID, MR. CHISHIMBA KAMBWILI CONTRAVENED SECTION 16(1) OF
THE IMMIGRATION AND DEPORTATION ACT NUMBER 18 OF 2010 OF THE LAWS OF
ZAMBIA, WHICH MANDATES ANY PERSON EXITING THE COUNTRY TO APPEAR BEFORE AN IMMIGRATION OFFICER FOR EXIT CLEARANCE FORMALITIES.
