INDIVIDUALS CAUTIONED TO BE MINDFUL AS THEY USE NEWLY LAUNCHED INJECTABLE PREP
The Treatment, Advocacy and Literacy Campaign-TALC-says the launched injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis –prep- called cabotegravir long acting -cab-la- should not be considered as a 100% effective preventive measure against HIV and sexually transmitted diseases.
Zambia has become the first country in Africa to offer an injectable pre-exposure prophylaxis medicine for HIV prevention, a safe and effective HIV prevention tool that provides clients with two months of HIV protection between injections.
But in an interview with Phoenix News, TALC Programs Manager, Clever Semembe has since advised individuals using the drug to continue protecting themselves even after receiving the injection.
Mr. Semembe is also appealing to the government as it rolls out the injectable prep to ensure the general public is educated about its limits.
He has also commended the government for the initiative to launch the injectable prep, saying this is what various stakeholders in the health sector have been advocating for.
