A shocking incident of alleged sodomy has been reported at Hillcrest Technical Secondary School in Livingstone, prompting an investigation by the Livingstone Central Police Station. The case involves a 14-year-old grade 9 pupil who was reportedly assaulted by a 17-year-old grade 12 pupil, who also serves as the house captain of the dormitory where the incident occurred.
According to a police statement issued by Mr. Auxensio Daka, Commissioner of Police and Commanding Officer for the Southern Division, the incident took place on January 26, 2025, around 19:00 hours. The victim, who was unwell and resting in his dormitory, was allegedly assaulted by the suspect while other pupils were attending preparation classes. The suspect reportedly threatened the victim with violence if he disclosed the incident to anyone.
The victim later informed his father, a 58-year-old resident of Dambwa North, who reported the matter to the police on January 31, 2025. The police have since issued a medical report to the victim and opened a case docket. However, no arrests have been made as of yet.
In a statement, Mr. Daka emphasized the gravity of the situation, saying, *”This is a deeply concerning incident that violates the rights and dignity of a minor. We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and will ensure that a thorough investigation is conducted. The victim’s well-being is our priority, and we are working to provide the necessary support while pursuing justice.”*
The police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in the investigation. Meanwhile, the school administration has been called upon to review its safeguarding policies to prevent such incidents in the future.
This case has sparked outrage in the community, with calls for stricter measures to protect students in boarding schools. Child rights advocates are also emphasizing the need for increased awareness and education on sexual abuse and consent among young people.
As the investigation continues, the police have assured the public that updates will be provided as the case progresses. The victim and his family are receiving support, and efforts are being made to ensure their safety and privacy during this difficult time.
