Socialist Party (SP) leader Dr Fred M’membe has strongly criticized President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government, saying their four years in office have been characterized by “rhetoric, lies, and arrests.”
Speaking on the current state of governance, Dr. M’membe stated that the UPND administration had failed to bring meaningful changes to key sectors of the economy that could improve people’s livelihoods.

He argued that instead of transformative progress, the government had focused on intimidation and abuse of state institutions.
According to him, the country had regressed in terms of governance and democracy under Mr. Hichilema’s leadership.
“Truth be told, the four years of Mr Hichilema and the UPND in government has just been about empty rhetoric, lies, threats, and arrests of any one that exposes their embezzlement, fraud, corruption, tribalism and many other failures,” Dr. M’membe stated.
“The only big changes they can point to are intimidation, arrests, abuse of the court system and parliament, and shrinking of the democratic space. They have sadly succeeded in taking this country many years back in history insofar as governance and democracy is concerned.”
Dr. M’membe also criticized the management of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), calling it a scandal.
He referred to the Auditor General’s report, which he said had exposed fraud and corruption in the fund’s administration.
“They have done nothing. Nabafilwa!” he declared, emphasizing his belief that the government had failed.
Encouraging Zambians to seek alternative leadership, Dr. M’membe urged them to join the Socialist Party, which he described as a vehicle for “hope, justice, equity, and peace.”
He assured the public that his party had a clear plan to create jobs, grow the economy, and distribute wealth equitably.
“Our vision is to put Zambians first by improving health, mining, agriculture, sanitation, and education,” he stated, adding that his party’s goal was to build a country that fosters social, economic, and cultural upliftment.
He further assured citizens that a Socialist Party government would serve the people rather than focus on amassing wealth.
“This greed you’re seeing today, you shall see no more under SP in government,” he said.
Dr. M’membe concluded by calling on Zambians to support the Socialist Party’s mission to “rebuild the country in a meaningful and qualitative way,” promising a government that prioritizes the welfare of its citizens.
