HICHILEMA AND THE UPND FACE UNCERTAIN FUTURE
…they have become increasingly desperate as public dissatisfaction grows says Dr M’membe
Lusaka… Monday February 24, 2025
Socialist Party (SP) leader Dr Fred M’membe has declared that President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND are heading toward defeat in the 2026 general elections.
He underscored that the ruling party is becoming increasingly desperate as public dissatisfaction grows.
In a statement, Dr. M’membe stated that Zambians are struggling with worsening economic conditions and a lack of hope, which he attributes to what he described as the UPND government’s failure to govern effectively.

Dr M’membe observed that the current administration has made a “monumental mess” of the economy, leaving many citizens impoverished.
He has accused President Hichilema and his government of failing to understand the concerns of the Zambian people, stating that they have abandoned principles, integrity, and credibility.
He also stated that the UPND’s attempts to blame others and manipulate public opinion had not succeeded in regaining the trust of the people.
“The Zambians now know and understand that Mr. Hichilema cannot be trusted to carry this country forward,” he said, adding that the ruling party has lost credibility due to unfulfilled promises and economic hardships.
Meanwhile, Dr. M’membe has alleged that the UPND government is characterized by corruption, abuse of state institutions, and a lack of democratic principles.
He claimed that the administration prioritizes foreign interests over the welfare of Zambians and that its leadership has been unmasked.
As the 2026 elections approach, Dr. M’membe has expressed confidence that the growing dissatisfaction among citizens would lead to a change in government.
He dismissed claims by the UPND that there is no viable political alternative, arguing that Zambians are ready to make a change.
“Our people don’t need the UPND or any hired voices to guide them in the elections,” he said, insisting that citizens have already experienced UPND rule and are prepared to vote for an alternative leadership.
Dr. M’membe concluded by asserting that the Socialist Party remains committed to establishing a governance system that prioritizes justice, patriotism, and the welfare of the people.
He declared that the current government’s time in power is coming to an end, stating, “Zambians have already decided that kuya bebele!”
