Fred M’membe’s recent accusations against President Hakainde Hichilema are nothing but a desperate attempt to discredit the President. M’membe claims that President Hichilema wants to manipulate the constitution for his own personal benefit and political survival. However, these allegations are baseless and lack factual evidence.

President Hichilema’s proposal for constitutional amendments is aimed at promoting inclusivity, equality, and justice for all Zambians. The amendments are intended to strengthen the constitution, not to prolong the President’s stay in office as M’membe falsely claims. In fact, President Hichilema has consistently demonstrated his commitment to upholding the constitution and ensuring that the people’s voices are heard.

This is not the first time M’membe has been caught spreading propaganda. He has a history of misinterpreting facts and manipulating information to suit his own agenda.¹ For instance, M’membe previously made baseless allegations that President Hichilema was attempting to establish a “parallel army” through the Zambia National Service voluntary skills training program. However, this program is actually designed to equip young people with essential skills to secure employment or start their own ventures.

We challenge Fred M’membe to publish the draft bill he claims exists and name the members who drafted it. Until then, his allegations remain nothing but hot air.

President Hichilema understands that the running mate clause was the people’s will, not a manipulation tactic as M’membe falsely claims. The President is committed to upholding the constitution and ensuring that the people’s voices are heard.

Fred M’membe’s accusations against President Hichilema are nothing but a desperate attempt to discredit the President. We must not fall for such propaganda and instead focus on the facts. President Hichilema has been a champion of constitutional reform, and M’membe should be ashamed of his attempts to undermine this effort.
