ERB SAYS NO TO ZESCO’S EMERGENCY TARIFF INCREASE APPLICATION

The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has rejected Zesco’s emergency tariff increase application.

Speaking to the media in Lusaka this morning, ERB Board Chairman, James Banda, said the application has been rejected on account that even if the tarrifs were to be increased, Zesco would still not be able to address the concerns by consumers who want hours of loadshedding to be reduced.

ERB has therefore pledged to work hand in hand with Zesco in a quest to find other means of raising finances as opposed to subjecting the already burdened Citizens to paying more on electricity.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson has hinted that the Public hearing held on Wednesday this week gave a clear indication that consumers were opposed to this said application.

Last week, the Energy Minister, Makozo Chikote announced that loadshedding hours will increase to 17hrs per day effective 1st September 2024.
