ERB MAPS AREAS WITHOUT FILLING STATIONS TO COMBAT ILLEGAL FUEL SALES IN SOUTHERN REGION
The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) in the Southern Region has taken a proactive step by mapping areas lacking filling stations.
This initiative aims to provide investors with essential information for consideration.
Illegal fuel sales are prevalent in rural areas, and ERB’s Senior Manager for the Southern region, Frank Mpundu, emphasized the need to address this issue.
During a meeting in Choma district, Mpundu revealed that ERB has even relaxed some requirements for opening filling stations in rural areas to attract investments.
The board is committed to curbing illegal fuel vending by targeting suppliers who provide the commodity to vendors.
However, participants raised concerns about the feasibility of ERB’s efforts, especially in areas like Sinazongwe district, where sufficient service stations are lacking.
They questioned how residents would access fuel if vendors were prohibited from selling it.
