ENERGY MINISTER MEETS ZRA, ZESCO OVER KARIBA WATER LEVELS
MINISTER of Energy Peter Kapala has visited Siavonga District to meet with Management of Zambezi River Authority – ZRA and Zesco.
The purpose of his visit was to allow for planning on how his Ministry will deal with electricity deficits in the country if water levels in Kariba Dam will not increase by June and July this year.
Kapala who was accompanied by his Executive Assistant David Wamulume said this Friday when he paid a courtesy call at the office of the Siavonga District Commissioner Geoffrey Jakopo.
The Minister disclosed that he has been receiving almost daily updates on the infront of the dam.
He however says he is not impressed with the amount of water that is getting into the dam, hence his desire to visit the district.
Kapala says he was reliably informed that the dam last year recorded the lowest water levels it has ever recorded since it was built.
He however says the water body is slowly rising, expressing hope that the water levels will improve by June and July.
