Youth, Sports and Arts minister Elvis Nkandu and PF faction vice-president Given Lubinda who are on the opposite sides of the political spectrum have made headlines after they hugged during the solemn service held in Lusaka’s Showgrounds this afternoon.

The gesture, accompanied by their political symbols raised high, elicited a wave of applause and cheers from mourners gathered to bid farewell to the 47 year old musician.

As the minister presented his speech, he emphasised on unity regardless of one’s political affiliation, pointing to how he walked through the show grounds with his political opponent, Lubinda in a rare show of unity and love.

The PF veep who was seated a few inches away from the minister, stood up and embraced Nkandu and together they showcased their political symbols in the air.

And bishop Eddie Mulenga who presided over the service later called on politicians from all parties to hold hands to not only show love and unity but stand as a mark of solidarity.

In his eulogy, Nkandu praised the late Dandy Krazy for his contributions to the arts and Zambian culture, noting how the artiste’s legacy transcended politics.

“He was an extraordinary individual. He brought joy to countless Zambians. His passing away has created a profound to our lives. We are mourn an artiste not a politician. He has been encouraging us to embrace creativity and pursue our passion fearlessly. May we honour his memory,” he eulogised.

He urged Zambians to embrace love and unity even after the funeral of the legend regardless if one’s political views.

“Let us continue to unite as a nation loving one another in the spirit of brotherhood and one Zambia one nation we have exhibited the way we walked with honourable Given Lubinda tells you that we have a political leadership which provides an enabling environment. All attributes go to the president Hakainde Hichilema,” said Nkandu.

Nkandu also used the platform to address a growing trend of publicising funeral donations on social media, stating that pledges should never at any point be publicised.

He further announced that government would continue to provide support to the family of the late.

“B Flow and the widow knows what we have discussed. Tradition demands that social media shouldn’t know what you have given. When you donate anything to a funeral, don’t go on social media. We will make sure that after the funeral, government can intervene so that the lives of the children are enhanced,” said Nkandu.

Dandy Krazy, who passed away last Thursday following a road accident which killed four others was a music icon whose songs like Donchi Kubeba left an indelible mark on Zambia’s political history.

His funeral drew fans, fellow artistes and politicians alike, all united in grief and celebration of his life.

The service, though somber, carried moments of vibrancy as his music echoed through the neighborhood.

Fans danced to his hits such as Not Guilty and Nyeleti which transformed the funeral into a celebration of his life and legacy.
