COUPLE GRANTED DIVORCE AFTER 15 YEAR SEPARATION…WIFE SAID STEP SON MADE HER LIFE HELL
KABUSHI Local Court has granted divorce to a couple that has been on separation for 15 years.
In this matter, Doris Kabwe, 56, a resident of Masala Township, sued William Phiri, 59, a resident of Kabwe Road Settlement, for divorce on grounds that the two had been on separation for 15 years.
Kabwe told the court that the two married in 2004 after Phiri paid K50 as dowry. They have one child together.
“Problems started when I moved to Phiri’s farm and found him staying with his three children from his previous marriage. One of the children used to insult me and was fond of entering our bedroom when we were sleeping,” she said.
Kabwe said Phiri’s son made her life hell but Phiri would defend them.
She said he told her to go back to her parents’ home if his children did not like her. “His son would call me names and tell me to move out of the house while my husband would sit and watch without intervening,” she said.
“I left in 2009 when I was seven months pregnant, and since then we have been apart. I have been trying to give him back the dowry but he refuses to get it and still insists that I am his wife. I have brought him here to give him back his dowry because this marriage ended a long time ago,” she said.
