CHIPANGALI HEADTEACHER KILLS SELF
A 52-year-old headteacher at Muliliwa Primary School in Chipangali, Eastern Province, has committed suicide after allegedly separating with his wife.
Evaristo Banda took his own life by taking an unknown chemical and was found dead inside his house on Monday.
Eastern Province police commanding officer Limpo Liywalii told journalists in Chipata yesterday that Banda separated with his wife in December.
Mr Liywalii said the wife is believed to have taken all her belongings with her to Lusaka.
“The deceased was married to Ronthia Phiri and in December 2023 they went on separation and the wife got all her belongings and went to Lusaka, where she is currently staying,” he said.
Mr Liywalii said Mr Banda reportedly got depressed, leading to his suicide.
His body was picked and taken to Chipata Central Hospital awaiting burial as relatives do not suspect any foul play.
Meanwhile, according to sources, Mr Banda picked a quarrel with his wife in December last year when she accused him of failing to manage himself whenever he took too much alcohol.
The alleged differences resulted into the wife packing and moving out of the house.
