MORE ZNS MEALIE MEAL EXPECTED IN CHIPATA

Government says the once-off activity of selling of mealie-meal by ZNS, the Zambia National Service in Chipata was to alleviate the pressure on the supply of the commodity in the city.

ZNS Officers from Lusaka were in Chipata yesterday selling a 25-kilogram bag of breakfast at 230 Kwacha while roller meal was being sold at 180 Kwacha.

Chipata residents scrambled for the 1,200 bags of the ZNS mealie-meal that were sold within few hours.

Provincial Permanent Secretary Paul Thole says depending on how critical the situation will be, ZNS might be back end of next week to sell the commodity to residents.

In retail and chain stores within the central business district, a 25-kilogram bag of mealie-meal is selling between 310 and 395 Kwacha.

And some traders are selling a 50-kilogram bag of maize at 500 Kwacha.
