Zambia positions to benefit from US50 Billion China support to Africa 

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has reaffirmed the UPND’s commitment to the partnership with the Communist Party of China (CPC), emphasising his commitment to continue strengthening the party through grassroots mobilisation.



And the CPC has hailed President Hichilema for his personal commitment towards the development of the country.

Speaking in Beijing this morning when he met with the Chinese Minister for International Department, and member of the CPC, Liu Jianchao, President Hichilema said the UPND was keen on learning from China’s ruling party.

“We need to continue to breeds and nurtures leaders from the grassroots to bring about equity, to identify talent from across the country. And we have seen the good quality of leaders in the provinces we have visited during our visit,” he said.

President Hichilema said the UPND is committed to enhance the party to party cooperation with the CPC.

He said the two political parties have a long standing relationship which should continue, with President Xi Jinping’s resolve to support African political parties.

Speaking earlier, Liu commended President Hichilema for his personal commitment towards the development of Zambia.

“The UPND and CPC have a long standing mutual relationship. We admire your personal struggle and dedication for the well being of the people of Zambia,” he said.

Meanwhile during the meeting President Hichilema took the opportunity to thank the Chinese government for their support during the debt restructuring process under the G20 framework.

He also thanked the Chinese government for supporting the Tanzania Zambia Railways as it would enhance trade and business both in Zambia and within the region.

During the meeting the two governments agreed to immediately start the implementation of Presidents Xi’s ambitious 10 point partnership agreement where he has pledged to support Africa with US50billion in the next three years.

“We are very pleased and grateful to President  Xi and the people of China for their support to Africa. We need to work towards the practical implementation of President Xi’s action plan,” he said.

During the 2024 Forum on China Africa Summit President Xi announced that China would support Africa’s development agenda with US$50 billion to be spent over the next three years.

President Hichilema is in China attending the Summit.
