UKA presidents suspend 1 party from alliance

OUT of the 16 political party members under the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA), the council of presidents that includes former president Edgar Lungu have suspended one political party from the political grouping.

The UKA Council of Presidents announced through a Facebook statement that it had decided to freeze the membership for the New Era Democracy (NED) headed by Phumulo Situmbeko until further notice but not give reasons for the suspension.

The alliance also appointed Ephraim Shakafuswa as the UKA media director.

Other appointees include, Sam Chiti who has been appointed as the UKA Mobilisation Chairperson and Davies Musonda as UKA Mobilisation Chairperson.

In a statement, the alliance’s Communications Chairperson Jackson Silavwe stated that the decisions are meant to ensure that UKA matures for the benefit of all Zambians.

“In this regard, the alliance will continue to be alive to the different political dynamics both internally and in our Nation for effective checks and balances,” said Silavwe.
