PATRIOTIC Front Vice-president Given Lubinda says his party recognises the offer by President Hakainde Hichilema to meet former leader Edgar Lungu.
Speaking at a media briefing, Mr Lubinda urged President Hichilema to use the opportunity to involve the former president in resolving the multiple challenges and crises facing the country. He called on the President not to squander the opportunity by playing to the gallery.
Mr Lubinda charged that many Zambians have been frustrated by what he termed as President Hichilema’s inability to meet with his predecessor over the last three years.
“It did not have to take the clergy to request him to dialogue with the former president. As far as we know, Mr Hichilema, this pronouncement was meant for the gallery like many other hypocritical pronouncements he has made in the past. As he confronts his pronouncement about meeting ECL, we implore him to address the numerous challenges that he has inflicted on the people of Zambia,” he said.
During the 125th anniversary of the Reformed Church of Zambia, Synod Moderator Ackson Banda called on President Hichilema to engage Mr Lungu, whom he referred to as his brother.
In response, the President accepted the suggestion by the church to reach out to the former President, stating that he will extend his hand to Mr Lungu because the Government has adopted an inclusive approach to governance.
