UPND has distanced itself from recent comments by George Mtonga regarding maize marketing, saying the remarks do not represent the position of the Party or Government.
The UPND says Mtonga is not an authorised party spokesperson and that his comments should therefore be treated as his personal opinion.
The Party has assured farmers that Government, through the Food Reserve Agency (FRA), remains committed to ensuring maize produced by farmers finds a market.
The UPND says FRA will provide an official update on maize deliveries, grain clearance and payments to farmers and suppliers.
It has also encouraged farmers to continue producing with confidence, stating that Government is working to develop domestic, regional and international markets for increased maize production.
