ZCCB Expresses Solidarity with Archbishop Alick Banda
LUSAKA, 28 September 2026 — The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has expressed solidarity with Archbishop Alick Banda, Metropolitan Archbishop of Lusaka, as he appears before the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) on Monday, 28 September 2026.
In a statement issued for immediate release, the ZCCB said it stands with Archbishop Banda together with the Catholic faithful and people of goodwill during the process.
The Bishops reaffirmed their respect for Archbishop Banda’s pastoral ministry and dedication to the Catholic Church and the nation. They also called for fairness, dignity and due process, urging all concerned to uphold these principles without prejudice or intimidation.
The ZCCB said Archbishop Banda has consistently spoken on issues of integrity, unity, justice and compassion, describing his witness as strengthening the Church’s commitment to peace and justice in Zambia.
The Bishops further assured the Archbishop of their prayers, asking God to grant him fortitude, serenity and wisdom as he undergoes the process.
The statement concluded with a call to the Catholic faithful and all people of goodwill to continue praying for calm, peace and unity in Zambia.
