President Hakainde Hichilema has criticised what he described as a “spirit of entitlement” among some Lusaka residents, questioning why some people appear to think that Zambia belongs to them alone.
President Hichilema said Zambia belongs to all Zambians, regardless of their province, region or place of origin.
He was speaking today at State House during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed Deputy Auditor General (Audit Division), Patricia Malaila.
The President also said there is no crisis in the country following the August 13 general elections, noting that Zambians have already voted and should now focus their attention on developing the country rather than creating unnecessary tension.
Hichilema further called for greater inclusiveness, stressing that no particular group or region has exclusive ownership of Zambia.
During the ceremony, the President also charged the new Deputy Auditor General with ensuring the timely delivery of public audits, emphasising the importance of accountability, good governance and public confidence in government institutions.
His remarks come as the country begins a new political chapter following the August elections and his inauguration for a second term.
