Go and Visit Mundubile, Makebi in Prison, Mwila Urges MPs
TONSE Alliance National Chairman Davies Mwila has called on Members of Parliament to visit incarcerated Alliance leaders Brian Mundubile and Makebi Zulu at Mukobeko Maximum Prison.
Mwila said MPs should show solidarity with the two leaders by visiting them, instead of leaving them to serve their time without support.
He said the continued visits by supporters are a sign that Mundubile and Zulu still have people standing with them.
Mwila added that visiting the two leaders would demonstrate that the MPs have not abandoned them.
“I know others have not been there, especially Members of Parliament. But I want to say that we are monitoring who is going there and who is not going there,” Mwila said.
Meanwhile, Mwila claimed that he and his team were denied access to the two opposition leaders when they went to visit them at Mukobeko Maximum Prison in Kabwe yesterday.
He said prison officials informed them that they needed to apply through the Zambia Correctional Service headquarters in Lusaka before they could be allowed to visit the incarcerated leaders.
Mwila questioned how relatives and supporters travelling from villages would manage if they were required to travel to Lusaka before being allowed to visit.
“We are getting concerned because we have the right to see them,” Mwila said.
The National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate in the August 13 general election, Brian Mundubile, and his running mate, Makebi Zulu, were jointly arrested for seditious practices.
Prior to the fresh charge, the duo was arrested alongside 16 others on treason charges over their alleged involvement with militias following the general election.
Mundubile and Zulu were initially taken into custody on August 27 and remain in custody awaiting a court appearance.
