Masebo’s witness says campaign beating left him unable to ‘function in bed’ at home
A witness in Sylvia Masebo’s Chongwe East election petition has told the Lusaka High Court that an alleged attack by supporters of independent candidate Anita Kamanga left him with persistent back pain and, rather awkwardly, unable to perform his conjugal duties.
Aaron Mwambi, a member of the UPND campaign team, said he was among party supporters allegedly attacked on July 23, 2026, while returning from a funeral in Bundabunda during the campaign period.
According to Mwambi, what began as a routine trip to bury a colleague’s relative turned into an encounter involving vehicles, pepper spray, alleged beatings and what appears to have been a particularly unfortunate toll on his marriage.
Masebo is challenging the Chongwe East parliamentary election result after losing the seat to Kamanga, an independent candidate who polled 16,058 votes against Masebo’s 6,798.
Masebo alleges that her supporters were subjected to violence during the campaign and that false and defamatory statements were also made against her.
Testifying before the court on Wednesday, Mwambi said he and other UPND members travelled to Bundabunda to attend the funeral of a colleague’s sister.
He said their group travelled in a UPND truck and, upon reaching Bundabunda Primary School, encountered a blue Toyota RAV4 fitted with two megaphones,
