PRESIDENT HICHILEMA NAMES FIRST MINISTERS OF SECOND TERM
President Hakainde Hichilema has made his first ministerial appointments of the new term, drawing on the nominated Members of Parliament sworn in this week.
Dr Roma Chilengi has been appointed Minister of Health and Dr Gilbert Siame Minister of Green Economy and Environment, alongside Mulambo Haimbe, who returns to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Situmbeko Musokotwane, Member of Parliament for Liuwa, retains the finance portfolio he has held since 2021.
Musokotwane steered Zambia through its debt restructuring and the negotiations with bilateral and commercial creditors that followed, and his reappointment signals to markets and lenders that the fiscal approach of the first term carries into the second without interruption.
Haimbe’s return to Foreign Affairs points the same way. Zambia has spent the past weeks receiving congratulatory messages from governments across the world, and the diplomatic groundwork of the first term, particularly around critical minerals, is work that will be benefited by continuity
