Hakainde Hichilema has officially been sworn in as President of the Republic of Zambia for a second five-year term, opening the 2026–2031 administration following his victory in the August 13 general election.
W.K. Mutale Nalumango has also taken the oath of office as Vice President, renewing the Hichilema-Nalumango governing partnership for another term.
The oaths complete the constitutional transition from the election to a new administration and formally return executive authority to the pair for the next five years.
The ceremony at National Heroes Stadium is being witnessed by thousands of Zambians alongside regional heads of state, senior government representatives and international delegations who have travelled to Lusaka for the inauguration.
Attention now turns to Hichilema’s inaugural address, his first major statement after taking the oath. The speech is expected to set the political and economic direction of his second term, with the cost of living, employment, economic growth, energy and governance among the major issues confronting the new administration.
The election delivered the mandate. The oath has now conferred the authority. The next signal will come from the President himself.
