NO MIDNIGHT SHOCK
… fuel prices hold steady as ERB maintains August pump rates

ZAMBIA’s fuel prices remain unchanged and in full force as the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) maintains the retail pump rates established during its recent review cycle.
In an official statement issued by the ERB dated August 31, 2026, board chairperson James Banda announced that domestic petroleum pump prices remained unchanged and in full force for the upcoming month.
The national uniform prices per litre held active by order of the Board are: Petrol: K25.29, Diesel: K26.86, Kerosene: K27.02 and Jet A-1: K28.71
Explaining the rationale behind the decision, Mr Banda outlined a delicate balancing act between international commodity shifts and domestic currency metrics.
The ERB’s standard monthly review process revealed two contrasting market movements that effectively neutralised each other.
The regulatory decision ensured pricing predictability for domestic industries, businesses and transport operators navigating an uncertain economic landscape.
The ERB’s decision to keep existing prices in effect follows a complex monthly evaluation of the stany.
By maintaining these specific rates, the Government provides essential breathing room for the domestic economy.
Stable fuel costs prevent the rapid compounding of operational costs in sectors highly sensitive to energy prices—namely agriculture, mining, and public transit.
Furthermore, this pricing window directly supports local inflation management. Annual inflation has shown signs of easing, explicitly aided by the relative cooling and stabilisig of transport and energy metrics.
Moving into the next regulatory cycle, the ERB wilould ontinue to monitor volatile Middle Eastern geopolitical events and domestic macroeconomic shifts to determine future fuel revisions.
