Zimba Distances Himself From Presidential Election Petition Plans

Former political advisor to late President Edgar Lungu and Tonse Alliance founder Dr Chris Zumani Zimba has distanced himself from efforts to petition the 2026 presidential election results.
In a statement circulating on social media, Dr Zimba said that, despite the strong feelings surrounding the election outcome, he would “NOT be PART of it,” referring to plans to challenge the presidential results.
He instead called for dialogue, healing, peace and reconciliation, saying these should now take centre stage in the country.
“With such fire, petitioning Presidential Results Will Be a Big mistake!” Dr Zimba stated.
He further said that, in his capacity as Tonse Alliance Founder, Secretary General and Chief Adviser, he would not participate in a presidential petition.
Dr Zimba previously served as political advisor to late President Edgar Lungu and has been a key figure in the formation and leadership of the Tonse Alliance.
Recent reporting has also identified him as the alliance’s Secretary General.
His latest position signals a call for restraint and reconciliation following the 2026 general elections.
