NBS BANK REWARDS MALAWI’S SCORCHERS WITH K245 MILLION
NBS Bank has announced a MWK245 million (about K2.66 million) reward for Malawi’s Scorchers following their historic qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The reward will be shared among 48 players, coaches and members of the team’s support stafF, with NBS Bank saying the money will be deposited directly into the beneficiaries’ accounts.
The bank said each player will receive MWK7 million (about K76,000) as part of the reward.
NBS Bank said the initiative was meant to celebrate the team’s achievement and recognise the determination and hard work that helped Malawi secure a place at the global tournament.
Chief Executive Officer Temwani Simwaka congratulated the Scorchers, saying their resilience and determination had made history and brought pride to Malawi.
The bank also said it would provide the team with financial literacy and wealth-management training to help members manage and grow their earnings.
However, the figures announced contain a discrepancy: 48 beneficiaries receiving MWK7 million each would amount to MWK336 million, which is higher than the stated MWK245 million package.
