THREE ZAMBIANS ARRESTED OVER ALLEGED MILITARY TRAINING ABROAD
Three Zambian nationals have been arrested after allegedly undergoing military-related training outside the country.
Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Permanent Secretary Dickson Matembo said the three Dickson Tembo, Victor Muzyamba and Gideon Ezra Tolopa, were intercepted at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport on August 1, 2026, upon returning to Zambia.
Mr Matembo said preliminary investigations indicate that the three travelled outside the country on July 2, 2026, allegedly with the assistance and sponsorship of other individuals, and are believed to have undertaken military-related training.
Security officers reportedly recovered military-style regalia, military-related accessories, training certificates, training notes and electronic devices, including mobile phones and a laptop containing information believed to be relevant to the investigations.
The three have since been charged with unlawful drilling, unauthorised use of uniforms and offences under laws prohibiting terrorism.
They have appeared in court and remain in custody.
Mr Matembo further disclosed that businessman Valden Findlay had been linked to the investigations and had also been arrested, charged and remanded in custody for alleged facilitation of the activities.
He said investigations were continuing, with efforts underway to locate other persons of interest.
Mr Matembo urged the public not to politicise or misrepresent the matter, stressing that all suspects would be accorded their constitutional and legal rights, including the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
He also called on members of the public to remain calm and vigilant as Zambia approaches the August 13 general elections and to report information relating to activities that may threaten national security or public safety.
