SECURITY GUARD DETAINED OVER CHAMINUKA RESORT CEO’S MURDER

Police have launched investigations into the killing of Chaminuka Resort Chief Executive Officer Stelios Sardinis, 64, following a suspected aggravated robbery at the resort in Chisamba District.



According to Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi, the incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, August 9, between 01:00 and 01:15 hours.



Police were alerted after a 52-year-old employee at Chaminuka Lodge reported that unknown people had allegedly broken into Mr Sardinis’ residence.



Preliminary investigations indicate that the attackers, who were reportedly armed, forced their way into the house through the main glass door before gaining access to the bedroom.



Mr Sardinis was allegedly assaulted during the attack, while the suspects are reported to have made away with a safe containing documents, valuables and an undisclosed amount of cash.



Following the attack, Chaminuka Resort employees rushed Mr Sardinis to CFB Medical Centre in Lusaka, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.



Police have since processed the crime scene as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and the value of the stolen property.



A security guard who was on duty at the time of the incident has also been detained to assist police with investigations.
