MUNDUBILE SAYS NRP-UP CAMPAIGN RAISES K860,000 IN 24 HOURS, RECORDS K2.8 MILLION IN PLEDGES
LUSAKA – National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRP-UP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says his campaign has raised more than K860,000 in cash donations within 24 hours of launching its public fundraising initiative, with an additional K2.8 million pledged by supporters.
The fundraising drive, launched on Saturday, invites Zambians both at home and abroad to contribute financially towards the NRP-UP presidential campaign and voter protection activities ahead of the August 13 general elections.
In a public update issued on Sunday, Mundubile described the response as overwhelming and unprecedented, saying it reflected growing public confidence in his presidential bid.
“Within 24 hours, we have received over K860,000 in cash financial donations. In addition, our campaign fundraising team has recorded K2.8 million in campaign financial pledges which are expected to come in during the course of this week,” Mundubile said.
He said the level of support demonstrated that the campaign belonged to ordinary Zambians rather than a few wealthy financiers.
“Clearly, this is unprecedented popular approval and countrywide support that I, as your servant leader, do not take for granted. I am thankful and indebted to you all for this profound gesture and historic political endorsement,” he said.
Mundubile expressed gratitude to supporters from across different sectors of society, including marketeers, farmers, taxi and bus drivers, truck drivers, university and college students, miners, teachers, nurses, doctors, security officers, business owners, landlords, tenants, council workers, artisans, domestic workers and members of the Zambian diaspora.
He urged supporters to continue contributing and sharing the fundraising campaign with family members, friends and colleagues.
“Please continue donating, continue visiting the platform and continue sharing the information every day. This is visible testimony that this campaign and my presidency belong to you as Zambians,” he said.
The fundraising campaign was launched after Mundubile said he preferred financing his campaign through contributions from ordinary citizens instead of relying on large foreign donations that could compromise national interests or influence government policy.
According to a statement circulated by his campaign team, Mundubile is seeking to build what he describes as a people-funded movement, arguing that citizen-financed campaigns strengthen accountability and political independence.
The fundraising initiative comes as campaigns intensify ahead of Zambia’s August 13 general election, in which Mundubile is contesting on the NRP-UP ticket with running mate Makebi Zulu under the Tonse Pamodzi Alliance.
His campaign has encouraged supporters across Zambia and in the diaspora to continue making voluntary contributions as the opposition seeks to finance its final campaign activities and election monitoring operations.
