Nakacinda expected to know fate today in seditious practices case
Patriotic Front faction Secretary General Raphael Nakacinda is expected to learn his fate today when the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court delivers judgment in a case in which he is accused of seditious practices.
Lusaka, 24 July – Nakacinda is accused of making allegations on social media that President Hakainde Hichilema directed law enforcement agencies to raid former President Edgar Lungu’s residence in Chifwema, Lusaka.
The allegations concerned the Zambia Police Service, Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) and Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which Nakacinda claimed had acted on instructions from President Hichilema.
The matter has been before the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court, which is expected to deliver its judgment today and determine whether the prosecution has proved its case against the opposition politician.
Under the Penal Code, a person convicted of seditious practices may, for a first offence, face a prison sentence of up to seven years, a fine, or both.
Nakacinda is already serving an 18-month prison sentence following his conviction for defamation of the President.
He is also facing a separate espionage case before the High Court.
Today’s judgment could therefore add to the legal challenges facing the PF faction Secretary General if he is convicted.

The court is expected to either acquit Nakacinda or find him guilty and proceed in accordance with the law.
