Chongwe — Former Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo has made explosive claims, saying the UPND must “do anything at all cost” to win the presidency on 13 August 2026, warning that party officials risk jail if they lose power.

Addressing supporters in chongwe this afternoon, Ms Masebo said; “We have to do anything at all cost as UPND to win elections at presidential level. If we lose, all of us upnd officials will go to prison. Mark my words.”

The former minister did not specify what she meant by “anything at all cost,” but the statement has sparked debate online about political accountability and the rule of law.

Ms Masebo served as Minister of Health under the UPND government before being moved to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in the 2024 after 61containers of medicine scandal and reshufled,She has been one of the party’s most vocal campaigners  especially in chongwe.

Political analysts say such remarks reflect the high stakes of the 2026 general election, with both the ruling UPND and opposition NRPUP positioning themselves for what is expected to be a closely contested vote.

The UPND has maintained that it will win based on delivery in agriculture, CDF, and economic reforms.

Legal experts note that in Zambia, no one can be jailed simply for losing an election. Prosecutions can only follow if there is evidence of a crime committed while in office.
