POLICE DETAIN ZNBC STAFFER FOR CYBER CRIME

The Zambia Police Service has detained MacPherson Mukuka, a staffer at the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, over an alleged cyber offence.

Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi stated that Mukuka was picked up in Lusaka in connection with a recorded private meeting.

Chilabi added that the suspect operates a Facebook page known as Earth Television Zambia, where the recording was published.

He observed that the audio was captured between July 14 and July 17, 2026, without the knowledge of those present.

Chilabi noted that the recording was later shared on the same social media account without prior consent.

He advanced that such conduct falls foul of Section 10 of the Cyber Crimes Act No. 4 of 2025.

Chilabi said that the law prohibits the recording of private conversations without giving advance notice to all participants.

He affirmed that the suspect is still in custody as detectives continue their inquiries.

Chilabi emphasised that more information will be released as the investigation unfolds.

He also confirmed that formal charges have not yet been laid against Mukuka.

The police spokesperson warned the public against circulating unauthorised audio content from private gatherings.

He further appealed to citizens to observe privacy protections under the country’s cyber legislation.
