CATHOLIC BISHOPS CONCERNED ABOUT THE COUNTRY’S TRAJECTORY UNDER HICHILEMA

The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) has called on Zambians to place their trust in God as the nation prepares for the August 2026 General Election.

Delivering the homily during the opening Mass of the ZCCB Second Plenary meeting, ZCCB President, His Grace Archbishop Ignatius Chama, of Kasama Archdiocese , said the plenary comes at a critical time as the country prepares to elect political leaders who will govern Zambia for the next five years and determine its future, either towards prosperity or doom.

Archbishop Chama said Zambians are looking forward to electing leaders who will respect the freedoms and liberties of all citizens, regardless of their tribe or political affiliation.

Archbishop Chama reminded the faithful that true security is found in God.

He urged Church leaders to remain faithful to their prophetic mission by leading the people to place their trust in God.

Archbishop Chama said this is not the time to join political bandwagons but to challenge the nation to convert and do what is right and just, trusting that God will uphold Zambia if its people remain faithful to Him.

He also expressed concern over the growing fear in the country, warning that the erosion of freedoms and liberties could lay the foundation for violence and undermine what Zambia has built over the years.

The Archbishop further prayed for the success of the plenary meeting.
