MAKAI’S DISTURBING TURN TOWARDS TRIBALISM
The inflammatory tribal remarks and threats of violence voiced by Makai Makai, the United Party for National Development (UPND) parliamentary aspirant for Mongu Central, have worried many citizens.
Makai openly targeted the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity (NRPUP) presidential candidate Brian Mundubile and his running mate Makebi Zulu with blatant tribal rhetoric.
Western Province has long stood as a bastion of political pluralism, embracing diverse parties and ideas without succumbing to ethnic division.
The participation of various political entities in the region’s governance has reflected a healthy democratic spirit, one that values unity over tribalism.
Against this backdrop, Makai’s recent behavior is all the more shocking.
His crude tribal appeals and threats not only undermine democratic values but also threaten to ignite violence.
The situation demands urgent intervention.
The Electoral Commission of Zambia and the Zambia Police should act decisively to address these threats.
